The State of Play - How to Think Like a Kid Again (half day)

In a widely cited 1968 experiment 98% of 5 year olds scored at the level of creative genius on a test for NASA engineers. The results proved something people had long suspected: creativity isn’t learned, it’s unlearned. In this playful, activity-rich 3 hour workshop we explore how to think like a kid again.

We begin with the latest neuroscience to understand the differences between a child and adult brain. We debunk the myth of the left brain / right brain and understand the three neural networks you need be creative – and how to move between them.

Then we unpack five strategies to enable you to reclaim that boundless, unfettered and fearless creativity you once had as a kid. Along the way you’ll be drawing ducks, finding faces and taking your mind for a wander.

Take-aways …

  • The left brain / right brain myth

  • Executive, default mode and salience networks

  • Extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation

  • How to disable your executive network

  • The value of a beginner’s mind

  • Oppositional thinking

  • The magic of accidents

  • Escaping the tiny, terrified space of rightness

Outcome

Greater creative flexibility, more fearlessness in the pursuit of ideas, and a bunch of strategies to enable you to make your process fun again.
