Originality Takes Time

Sometimes you have to be able to play a long time to be able to play like yourself.
— Miles Davis

Look at the trajectory of any great artist in any medium and you’ll almost always find an early period of imitation. The work is good, but we’ve seen or heard the style somewhere before.

Greatness only comes once you have have the courage - and the experience - to be able to break out and play or write or paint in your own way.

And being able to do this depends on you maximising the one advantage you have over everyone else - no one sees or experiences the world in quite the way you do. The truer you are to this, the more original your work becomes.

Just one of the advantages of being a little older 😉
