Every Wall is a Door

If you’re a human being reading this – and of course, these days there’s no guarantee of that – then I can say with certainty that you know what it means to be confronted by a constraint. A lack of time, money, talent, opportunity. At least some of these, if not all of them, will have stood in your way as you shuffle along this mortal coil. We think of constraints as a negative force, an anchor dragging against our ambitions. But what if the opposite were true? What if we learned to see constraints not as a hindrance but a help. Could it be, as Ralph Waldo Emerson once claimed, that in every wall is a door?
